Howdy! We’re Austin Detours – an independent locally-owned experiences company providing activity, tour and transportation services to locals, visitors and corporate clients. Our specialty is fun – we create amazing experiences for the lone traveler up to corporate groups of 300.

Our Handcrafted Austin Experiences allow you to check out the arts and music scenes, visit architectural delights, learn about organic gardening, discover urban winemaking, chow down on Texas bbq, tour the UT campus, freshen your wardrobe, take a two-step lesson, improve your golf, go crafting and much more!

We’re the tour company for people who don’t like tours. We believe you have to get out of the van and feel dizzy as you look up at the Capitol rotunda, indulge in the richness of a Gourdough’s donut, decipher the meanings behind the art at our best outdoor gallery, and tap your toes to the latest tunes of one of our local musicians. Our job is to ensure you leave Austin saying “wow!”

My sister, who recently moved to Austin and hasn’t had time yet to explore the downtown area, booked us on a two our city tour. Amazingly we were the only two so we ended up with a delightful private tour. Jason was our enthusiastic guide and answered our many questions while showing us some of the highlights. The stop for doughnuts was an unexpected treat…..in so many ways! We would have liked to have seen more of the UT campus but otherwise we felt we more than got our money’s worth. If you’re in Austin, check out Austin Detours.

The 2 hour “Real Austin” tour done by this company is definitely a winner. Leaving from the Visitor Center on 4th Street, you’re shown lots of the high lights of the downtown area as well as some hidden gems known only to locals.
Tour guide was warm, friendly, and professional.
Soft drinks and water are offered and it was fun to able to get out of the van fors several short stops –at the capitol so we could walk into the rotunda, graffiti hill, and even a food truck park.
If your time is limited this is a great way to get a feel for what makes Austin special!
Definitely hope to return and do their Culinary Crawl tour!
Great new addition to the tour options in Austin!

My sister and I recently did the “live music tour.” We had an amazing time! Elizabeth was our extremely knowledgeable tour guide. We learned about the live music scene of Austin and Austin culture. We went to live music venues we would have NEVER known about had we not done this tour. It was nice to be able to have our transportation taken care of to go to different venues all over Austin. Elizabeth was friendly, outgoing, and encouraged our partying! I would recommend this tour to anyone who loves live music and drinks!

In planning our trip to Austin, I was hoping to find a short yet a bit out of the ordinary way to introduce us to Austin. Based on other trip advisor reviews I’m so happy we chose Austin Detours. We booked a Saturday morning tour which meets at the Visitors Center on 4th Street–a very nice place in itself for souvenirs, drinks and restrooms. It was there we were cheerfully greeted by our tour guide, Jason. We totally lucked out when we found it was only going to be the three of us. From then on, my hubby and I were treated to a behind the scenes, very cool tour of this great city! In a beautiful, new, spacious Mercedes van. After finding out that were game for anything, he started at the beautiful capitol building which was a highlight for us. He even took us to the coolest places in the building which we never would have found on our own–and to think this was just the beginning! The next 2+ hours flew by while enjoying such spots as: Castle Hill Graffiti, U of Texas campus, various neighborhoods and little known tidbits, the SoCo scene all with plenty of time for photos. Our final stop was to experience one of the most delicious food trucks in the area–GOURDOUGH’s DOUNTS. I mean the absolute best donut I have ever eaten!

I know that we were able to be treated with much more personal attention due to the circumstances but I have no doubt no matter what the size of his tours, Jason’s love and enthusiasm for the great city of Austin will be one of the best decisions you could make during your visit!

We travel a ton. And we love wandering around looking for interesting discoveries. So what could be better than getting picked up by a super friendly Austinite in a Mercedes van who takes you to cool places no tourist would ever know about? We had a blast. The food was great, we learned about Austin, and ended up watching our Churros dessert being made before we devoured them because they were so awesome. Best of all was that this wasn’t the typical dry tour with a recording playing or some guy reciting a tired script. Alexandra and Elizabeth were like being with good friends and made it great fun. Gotta do this again!

We have lived in Austin for 14 years and wanted something different to do to celebrate our friends birthday! This was the way to go! They took us places we had never been all over town and with a group of about 20 people which can be hard to accommodate! We loved not knowing where we were going and having the whole night planned out. The Mercedes vans were very clean and we were able to play our own music and bring cocktails to enjoy in our cooler! The drivers were awesome and truly seemed to love their job! We are looking forward to our next adventure with Austin Detours! Thanks for a great evening!

This. Was. Awesome. This tour was purposefully booked to give us the opportunity to meet new people with similar interests. When we met our tour guide Elizabeth, we learned that nobody else would be joining us. At first we were disappointed, but that quickly changed. Elizabeth was fun and nice and knows so much about Austin, especially for being a transplant! We had the best time and would absolutely recommend Austin Detours to anyone looking to explore Austin as the locals see it!
