El Sol y La Luna Restaurant is a local and Latina-owned establishment (Nilda de la Llata and Blanca Alvarado). El Sol y La Luna goes beyond being a restaurant, offering complete off-site catering services, a place to hold social gatherings and business meetings, a comfortable environment for families, and community support to non-profit organizations.

When owner Nilda de la Llata moved to Austin the mid-1980s, she began her career as a restauranteur by working as a waitress. In the same way that she had mentors who taught her all the aspects of running a restaurant, she is now passing on her experience and knowledge to her partner, Blanca Alvarado and her employees. El Sol y La Luna Restaurant fosters a caring environment, not only for its customers, but also for its staff. The proof lies in the fact that the kitchen staff has remained with Nilda for over 15 years.

El Sol y La Luna has been recognized by Hispanic Magazine as one of the Top 50 Hispanic Restaurants in the United States. It has also received mentions in the New York Times, Runner’s World, Latina, ELLE DÉCOR, Texas Highways, Gourmet Magazine, Austin Woman and many others.

Throughout the years, owner Nilda de la Llata has worked closely with local nonprofits and other organizations in fundraising events and various social and political causes such as Mexic-Arte Museum, Latinitas, Las Comadres, YWCA, Rain Forest Partnership, Gen Austin, Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM), Project Transitions, American Gateways, Caritas, Lupe Arte, La Pena, Alma de Mujer, SafePlace, Liveable City, Austin Car Share, El Buen Samaritano, Save Town Lake, Austin Music Foundation, and Keller Williams. One of Nilda’s favorite phrase is, “Come by and experience this wonderful world of art, music and delectable Sol food…good for your soul!”

What a wonderful restaurant! It is by far one of our favorite places to eat. My daughter loves the rice and beans and queso. I love the mole enchiladas…the best in all of Texas! The team members at El Sol y La Luna are not only professional, but down to earth and adult and kid-friendly.
