I LOVE boutique hotels and I LOVE to support them! I first heard about Heywood from one of my friends who happens to know both Kathy and George, owners of Heywood. My husband and I thought about staying here for NY’s Eve 2012 when I heard that they would be opening that week. We ended up not staying here because my gf backed out but we definitely plan on staycationing here.

Since I have not actually been a guest of Heywood, my review is based on the hotel atmosphere, the rooms, and Kathy and George! The weekend of the Austin Modern Home Tour we were right down the street from Heywood. Since we were passing by it, I told my husband we should make a stop there to check it out. When we pulled in George was doing some yard work outside. I told him we had heard about the hotel and wanted to check it out. He was very welcoming. George invited us in and showed us around the property. Unfortunely the rooms were booked so we were not abel to see them. George introduced us to his wife Kathy. I told her about my friend who referred us to her. We had interrupted her while she was cleaning one of the rooms so we quickly chatted – she told us of their grand opening the following Tuesday and we got out of her hair.

We showed up the following Tuesday to their grand opening event and I will say it was fantastic! Good food, champagne and wine…we got to see several of the rooms and they are SUPER DUPER CUTE!!!! The courtyard/rooftop patio area is a great space as well. Kathy and George and their architecture firm did a WONDERFUL job putting this gem together!!! I can only say that they both have great taste and are both very friendly.

I can’t wait to stay here! Good job Kathy and George! Hope to see you soon!

Guys – cutest boutique hotel on the east side!

We loved the Heywood! First of all the hotel in itself is beautiful and clean. It is in the east side on Austin so about a mile from downtown which was walkable if you enjoy a stroll. We never felt unsafe. During the day we used the free bikes and rode all over Austin which was so convenient. I love being active and having it as an integral part of my day was great. Kathy was super helpful and gave lots of advice of things to o and see and restaurants to try. We did not have any bad experiences. There are many places short by to eat and all the stores and restaurants are very eclectic. Our stay was great. We stayed in the queen standard upstairs. The shower is amazing as the sun greets you through the skylight each morning. What a great way to wake up.
No complaints, hope to be back one day.

Loved it. My wife and I stayed here for one night during the F1 weekend. Almost everything was booked, so I figured I’d look “off the grid” at hotels not on the normal booking sites. We lucked out and found a room here.

I’ve stayed at boutique hotels all over the country (and outside of it), and this is a nice little find. The building was very nicely done. I love the modern look and accessories.

The staff at check-in and in the morning were very friendly.

My only complaint was, as mentioned by other reviewers, being in the room downstairs under the stairs in the morning it was a little loud. However, in a small hotel like this that’s not completely unexpected.

The Heywood is a fantastic boutique hotel! We stayed in the queen bee room and loved it! The room is small but it never felt stuffed because of how well laid out the floor plan was!
I can not emphasis enough how magical the bed is!!! Beyond comfortable we almost couldn’t get out of it in the morning to checkout! Be prepared its epic!
The shower was beautiful and the toiletries are top of the line!
    Good work heywood!!

My husband and I had a lovely stay at the Heywood Hotel for our anniversary last month. Although checking in took a little longer than usual, the rest of our stay more than made up for it. We booked the cozy Queen Balcony room, which had the most comfortable bed and a remarkable shower with a skylight. Although the room was pretty small, it had all the space we needed for a short stay.

This boutique hotel boasts a friendly staff, free parking, complimentary hot chocolate, clean facilities, and luxurious toiletries. I raved for days how great the shampoo was and even my husband commented on how good my hair looked.

Definitely take the short walk to the taco trailer Veracruz All Natural for breakfast if you get the chance!

    We loved this hotel!

This was our first time trying a “boutique” hotel and it was fantastic.

    Clean, modern, nicely appointed rooms.
The room lay outs are in a way so there is absolutely no noise from neighboring rooms. We stayed 5 nights and slept wonderfully every night. I would recommend staying upstairs, because the downstairs rooms are bound to be louder with guests entering/leaving plus street traffic.
I also have to mention the beds…awesome! Super comfy and nicer than many upscale hotels we’ve stayed in before.

The staff and owner are also a pleasure, offering great food and entertainment recommendations and providing a map of the local neighborhood with restaurant, shopping, transit, etc clearly marked.

Don’t miss the food truck a couple blocks down the street— best breakfast tacos ever!!

Overall we loved this hotel and would consider staying nowhere else the next time we visit Austin.

“How I wish you could see the potential
the potential of you and me
it’s like a book elegantly bound
but in a language that you can’t read just yet…..

You gotta spend some time, love
You gotta spend some time with me
and know that you’ll find love
    I will posses your heart”

These words hold true to Mr. Smidgens’s heart and soul. This is what I felt when I spent time at the Heywood Hotel with my one and only.

The Heywood is in the heart of East Austin. It’s located just off of Cesar Chavez and it is a hop skip and a jump away from Cenote coffee shop to get you that caffeine you all crave. Weather Up for some of the finest tuned cocktails in Austin. Tapas Bravas located right where Weather Up is on Chicon and Cesar Chavez for some nomalicious bites. Heck, East Side Pies will deliver you a pie if you want to stay in the comfort of one of your seven choice rooms!

Mr. Smidgens grew up on the East side and has seen it change over the past 30 years. People come and go and so do businesses. The community has changed and Austin is growing the way it should. Places like Kathy Setzer’s Heywood Hotel make Austin unique and welcoming. They make you want to come back.

We were honored to stay at this lovely property with its rich Austin history. The location alone for me has so many memories. Our room of choice was the lucky number 7 Queen Balcony. It’s located on the second floor with its own private balcony. The room was comforting. It was set up in a way that we would set up a room in our own home. The arts and crafts around the property and in the rooms are from local artists and can indeed be arranged for purchase. Awwww yissssssss!

No pets are allowed, no smoking in the rooms or in the hotel itself, and no candles or incense. It’s a romantic hotel to get away with your true love, but what is provided in the rooms is quite sufficient. Trust me….*WINK*

    The amenities included for free and offered in each room are above and beyond what most places give you. There are so many, but I will list a few to give you a taste;

“Heywood blend” coffee, roasted in the neighborhood
Mighty leaf herbal and caffeinated selections
Free bike rental of bicycles between 7:30am and 7:00pm (First come first served) if you want to explore the town.
Filtered chilled drinking water with receptacles to take back to your room

Squeezebox Internet jukebox with free streaming music and iPod/iPhone dock
    Phenomenal beds and bedding
Kevin Murphy shampoo and conditioner (sulfate and paraban free)
    I loved these!!
Archipelago Soy Milk soaps and lotion…..Makes you soft and supple!

A mini fridge full of local libations and snacks all at some of the cheapest prices for a mini bar snack bar experience you will want to try.

It warms my heart that a place like the Heywood exists in a town that has meant so much to me and in a community that is evolving. The East side is a vital part of Austin, it thrives with life and opportunities. The potential is limitless.

They were named one of the world’s best hotels on the Conde Nast Traveler 2013 Hotel Hot List!!!

You can choose to stay in one of the 7 wondrous rooms or have the whole place to yourself by renting the whole property. Mr. Smidgens wants to gather some close friends up and make this happen!

The Heywood is a place you will go to get away, a place you will make memories, a place you will fall in love with. The Heywood will speak to you visually and touch you like no other with its uniqueness.

    It will posses your heart…….

I know it’s strange that I am giving a five star review over at a hotel I never stayed at. My friend stayed there over the weekend to run the Austin Marathon and Half Marathon. I wanted to see the place because I saw photos of it. I must say it is nice. It has the modern decor in the lobby and upstairs there’s a patio/lounge area.

The hotel room is small but comfortable. It definitely has an intimate feel to it. Great for a stay-cation and I would definitely stay here if I can.

There’s only seven rooms at this hotel and not much parking.

This is a beautiful, comfortable hotel in the perfect location! I live in Austin (with multiple roommates), so when my mom and her friend came to visit they stayed here and really loved it.

The rooms are clean and modern, but still have a cute, cozy feel to them. The patio area is a great place to hang out, drink wine, and feel like you’re at home. We loved the decor and the swings on the porch. The Heywood is walking distance from awesome cocktail bars and restaurants/food trucks on the East side of Austin. They use all local products and furnishings, and they will let you know where you can purchase them if you find something you like. The staff went above and beyond to make their stay exceptional— things like giving great recommendations, having a french press brought to their rooms, and letting them borrow umbrellas on a rare rainy day. It made their trip to Austin feel truly special.

I would highly recommend staying here if you come to town!
