The Brixton is a eighborhood haunt with a covered patio serving craft cocktails & local beer, plus a jukebox & TVs.

The Brixton opened in October of 2009 as a Clash themed neighborhood punk dive bar. The bar changed owners in June of 2011 and adapted to the quickly changing East 6th Street neighborhood with seasonal drink menus, local Austin draft beers and plenty of places to sit and chill with your friends. After a major remodel in November of 2012 we’ve hosted plenty of parties, celebrity guest bartenders, DJ nights, and bad ass SXSW parties.

A cozy covered patio with heaters in the winter & fans in the summer, a killer juke box, plenty of TVs to watch whatever you’re in to, and a top notch professional foosball table that’s free every Tuesday. We’re available for private events, happy hour get togethers and SXSW events.

Swing by when you’re on the east side. Bring your dog if you want. We love the pups.

I was in here last night. 2 women were sitting outside enjoying drinks, nothing out of the ordinary. I was with a rather large group of friends. We got our drinks and stood outside under the patio heaters. It was colder inside that outside, those patio heaters are that awesome.

We continued drinking and talking, when suddenly out of the corner of my eye, I see one of the aforementioned woman, take her shirt off. Her friend followed suit. So now they were sitting there without shirts on, in bras, on a patio. We’re still not sure why this is happening. They go inside get shirts, and then come outside and try wearing shirts again. I guess they were swapping shirts or something.

We all get back to our business.

A few minutes later, I have sense of deja vu. Is this really happening? Have they taken off their shirts again? Yes. One of them proceeds to take her bra off, flash the whole bar and patio, and the walkers and bikers on the street outside. Boobs. They proceeded to get their clothes back on. We went on with our drinks.

I don’t know what it is about this place, but it is fucking awesome.

New drink recommendations for the Brixton –
The Dark and Stormy – dark rum, ginger beer, and lime juice.
The Texas Mule – Deep Eddy vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice.
    I clearly love ginger beer.

I’ve been here twice now, and both times really had fun. Another in the seemingly endless supply of humble bars serving craft cocktails, The Brixton stands out due to the service, wit and charm of the bartenders.

It’s interesting to me how any of these hundreds of bars separate themselves from the pack, but one sure way to do it is to provide great service. The guy behind the bar last evening was so welcoming, funny and patient, that it stood out to me.

For whatever reason The Brixton has been more of a “Let’s go here for a drink before we do XYZ” rather than an actual destination spot. I’ll have to reassess that going forward, because they’ve made me feel welcome and satisfied the couple of times I’ve been.

They deserve better than being a way station.

I really enjoyed this space! It was a drizzly Saturday afternoon, and we came to the Brixton as we worked our way down East 6th. We sat outside-the outside space is covered and features interesting paintings and plenty of seats (benches, stools, etc). Fact-I like to drink cider. The numerous selections at the Brixton were a joyous song to my soul, and I enjoyed sipping my Stella Artois Cidre with our group in the charming little Brixton on East 6th. Would definitely come here again!

This is my go-to East Sixth bar that isn’t Violet Crown. The bartenders are friendly, the drinks are cheap, and they can make some cocktails in case Lone Star or the cheap beer of the day doesn’t strike your fancy. The door guys are usually super-strict about IDs, which bugs some people, but I can understand them not wanting to eat a TABC fine because some lazy drunkard had an expired ID. Parking is… well, it’s parking on East Sixth. Go here for a cool crowd that also likes the punkish vibe of the interior, and get ready to hear Clash songs every 15 minutes, which is fine by me. I wish they had a little more seating, since they got rid of some in the main area, but maybe standing is a nice change, depending on how early in the night you go there.

So I saw The Brixton on Bar Rescue and went to visit it a couple of months *after* the show aired. My friend just recently saw the show and asked for my opinion of the place so I’ve decided I should write a review as well.

Tim changed the name back from whatever the heck it was changed to and it was probably for the best. The Brixton is a staple and I’ve always heard about it but I just live in north austin so never took the journey over there. I even know the construction/electrical company that helped rebrand it.

As far as I’m concerned, Tim and Sara are both amazing. I’ve been in there quite a few times now because I had a close connection for work down there and it was a simple 2 block walk to The Brixton. Tim isn’t the guy they show on tv and is actually a really chill person. Alysa is my usual bartender and I haven’t been in there in so many months so I still hope she works there because she makes the second best Old Fashioned in Austin.

They also play great music and have great things on the tv.

    Go visit, you’ll enjoy it!-

They make a great Ziga Zig-ah! I can’t believe I’ve never had one before.

The bartender was great. They have a great happy hour on Sunday’s from 2 to 9. It was a chill spot to hang out.

Do you like $3 beers? Do you like attentive bartenders? Do you like bearded men wearing flannel, skinny jeans and toms? This is your place!!

All jokes aside we came here on a Monday night and were not disappointed. Drinks were cheap, mixed and draft, and the service was great.
