Wahoo’s started in 1988 in a small location near the beach in Costa Mesa, CA. Three brothers took their love of surf and food to create a unique restaurant that serves up a fresh, light and tasty fusion of Brazilian, Asian and Mexican fare.

The customers are what make Wahoo’s succeed and stand out. We are proud to have a loyal and steady following of customers who are dedicated to “their” Wahoo’s location.

Today, there are Wahoo’s Fish Taco restuarants throughout California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Texas, Pennsylvania and Japan. Come and experience the difference!

Wahoos is solid. I moved in across the street and now I hit this place up at least a few times a month. I like the simplicity of the food, nothing tastes greasy or overly spiced. The first time I ate at Wahoos the food tasted very different to me in a way that I wasn’t sure I liked. I was thinking it was Texmex but it’s not. Now I really like the food for what it is. I also really like the vibe. It’s just chill and when you don’t feel like getting all fancy to eat on west 6th you can come here and get comfy with some tacos.

Oh, and go with the brown rice and navy beans. Pour the queso all over that stuff. You’re welcome.

I am visiting Austin from Kansas City and picked this place out based solely on who has WiFi and one $ for a quick and easy lunch. Wahoo’s did not disappoint in any shape or form. Friendly, helpful, cheerful staff, fantastic tasting food and a really cool and unique vibe inside the restaurant. I got the blackened fish bowl with brown rice and black beans, and even as a Chipotle lover, this was some amazing food. There’s a great flavor to it and for the price, it was hard to beat. Check it out, you’ll love it if a hole in the wall diner with great food and a chill vibe is your thing. Also, $1 beers every day from 5-630.

Awesome fish, kick ass ambiance, nice staff. Definitely enjoyed my lunch here. I ordered the #8 with a tortilla on the side. Tasted great and authentic. Would definitely recommend.

I’m from SoCal too and have been eating at the original Costa Mesa location since 91′. That being said, a little nostalgia is probably skewing my review. Also I was part of the surf and skate culture that makes this restaurants ambience unique. The workers, I suspect, are part of the culture as well. Laid back, nice and yes sometimes not in a big hurry but I come to chill in the scene anyway.
After 20 + years of eating here I pretty much only order the #2 combo, blackened fish tacos, black beans and white rice. I now have to order the tacos the original way since they have made a slight change after this long. My kids love the Maui bowls with the teriyaki beef. It is good and simple for them. The margaritas are a great complement and never disappoint.
Rubios fish tacos in Ca was good on occasion but wahoos is healthier and a lot more options. Wahoos is not authentic Mexican or Asian , its more like “beach” food.
Sounds silly but when we were looking for a place to raise our kids we were excited that austin had a Wahoos. We make the drive from Steiner at least twice a month.
Cool people will like this place.
