  1. Blown away. The food, the service, the ambiance, the whole experience was luxurious and the evening felt special. We had a big table so we tried almost everything on the menu with the exception of only a few dishes. Incredible. Seemingly simple plates of food made with incredibly complex and exquisite flavour combinations. My gosh, I love this place.

I am NOT a foodie. I am one of those annoying “picky eaters.” I easily found enough dishes to satisfy my immature simple palate but thank goodness i got to try other things from the table. I tried things I’d never had before and – wow. I didn’t like everything, but I could not resist trying it. (Dont knock sweetbreads until you have tried them here).

The smells were amazing. The first bite reactions from people at the table were large, full-mouthed grins, slowly savouring each bite with their eyes closed and a content, “Mmmmmm.” We were visibly and audibly excited when new dishes came out. We left full but not weighed down.

Our waiter, Andrew (I hope was his name), was a delight. We remarked at the table how he truly contributed to the overall success of the meal, and we appreciated his overall passion with everything he did.

I got my Loyalty card punched before I left and I will be back. I live in Denver, but this place will be my first stop and always my first recommendation for Austin gems.

  2. Delicious food for a great price. Ambiance could use a little work but everyone was really nice. It was a little obvious that they wanted us to order fewer items than we did, but hey, we love to eat. Wine list was small but impressive and interesting as well.

Ordered 13 small plates. Favorites were:
    Redfish
    Smoked rib
    Shrimp

    Looking forward to going back!

  3. For a company lunch, Cafe Josie was absolutely perfect. For a group of 8, we were able to order every small plate they offered, all good, but especially good was the fried oysters and pimiento spread.

Our server, who let us on before they even really opened, made all of our cocktails. I mean sure he made them, but he also created them! They were fantastic!! I loved the “porch swing”. I had too many haha.

The redfish Large plate was delicious. I ordered it with the avocado salad.

I would 100% recommend Cafe Josie for lunch, but it sounds like their adventure dinner is even better! A Fixed prix menu, but as many plates as you’d like! A $40 option, and one I’m definitely interested in trying!

  4. This year in lieu of having a big birthday shindig, I decided to have a small, low key dinner with a few close friends. After much research, I decided on Cafe Josie. I recall from years ago the GM of the hotel I worked at brought either an SVP or ownership here for dinner. I immediately saw that and the address and wrote it off as somewhere I’d probably never check out. But, after researching it and saw you can do “The Experience”, an unlimited tasting menu for $40 pp, I was sold. First things first, I honestly got confused and thought Clark’s was Cafe Josie and was expecting a line out the door and got more dumbfounded when I was able to adjust my reservation so much (probably 5-6 times over 24 hours). We showed up and it was not busy AT ALL (also a Tuesday night). My companions and I ordered practically EVERYTHING on the menu and shared everything. I want to say that I didn’t try 2-3 things but DID try sweetbreads for the first time and they were divine! The only lowlight for myself was the pimento cheese. It was fine but compared to everything else it was just OK. The fried brussels were outstanding! The service was attentive yet not intrusive and just right. I can’t wait to enjoy this again! Such a treat and such a bargain!
