Do you like beautiful stacks of books? Mullet baddie laughs? Goopy, pulsing creature effects? How about a cat vs. dog fight that lasts nearly as long as the fight from They Live?
After the commercial failure of Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky, Lam Ngai Kai returned to direct one final mindfuck. 1992´s The Cat finds us catching up with famous adventure novelist Wisely (Waise Lee, A Better Tomorrow), previously played by Chow Yun Fat in Kai´s 1987 actioner The Seventh Curse.
This sentimental sendoff features all the fever dream Lam Ngai Kai moments you love, plus Chekhov´s vodka, Vertigo worship, and positively Lisa Frank glitter travel. With all the magic and whimsy of a Murakami horror story, The Cat is phantasmagorical to the max.
