Lee Chang-dong’s ‘Burning,’ Fantastic Fest 2018 alum
From Lee Chang-dong, the acclaimed director of SECRET SUNSHINE and POETRY comes Cannes 2018 competitor BURNING, a quiet, disturbing mystery adapted from a short story by Haruki Murakami.
Jong-su (Yoo Ah-in) didn’t expect to run into his childhood neighbor Hae-mi (Jeon Jong-seo) again. Nor did he expect to be asked to cat-sit while she traveled to Kenya. Still, he rolled with it, and when Hae-mi returned, their friendship continued to grow. And Hae-mi didn’t come back alone. While in Kenya, she met and befriended Ben (Steven Yeun, SORRY TO BOTHER YOU). Ben’s a charming guy, and Jong-su befriends him as quickly as Hae-mi did.
But Ben has secrets. Deeply disturbing secrets… if he’s telling the truth about them. And that’s an open question. Before he’s done, Ben will leave his ashen marks on Jong-su and Hae-mi.
