Daruma Ramen – 6th Street Restaurant – We specialize in whole chicken broth ramen made with eggless tapioca-based ramen noodles. All of our stock and bases are freshly made every day from scratch. Whole chicken broth has many great health benefits such as lower calories, lower cholesterol, and high in vitamins. It allows us to make our ramen with a light and delicate flavor that you can enjoy until the very last sip of soup. Our menu is very simple. We offer just four varieties of ramen: Shio, Shoyu, Miso, and Vegetable (which is vegan). All four ramens have a very unique personality so you can choose your ramen based on your diet or your craving. Our interior design was done by Richard Weiss. He was able to bring a very cozy traditional Japanese ramen shop ambience with some modern, sophisticated, yet warm, welcoming set up. Small key items: our beautiful chopstick/napkin holders and the exterior signage were crafted by the local wood worker, Brian David Johnson.

  1. This place is legit. #1 is the way to go. It’s salty and satisfying. They have plenty of add-one to customize your ramen to your liking.
Since the place is small there’s usually a wait but the food comes out quickly. It’s convenient after a long day downtown or those cold nights.
They now have sake in a box – yes, like the kind you used when you were a kid.
    Party on.

  2. Very good service, but a little slow. Not enough seating, especially for bigger crowds. It gets pretty cramped, much like a ramen place you’d find in NYC. The ramen was great. The chili paste is very spicy so I suggest using a minimal amount. Have gender neutral bathrooms and very interesting decor.

  3. Had the miso base chicken ramen (#3 on menu) and it was amazing!!! Very filling and rich broth. I loved this place much more than Tatsuya… also very affordable for only 10$ a bowl. The server even overheard us discussing that the three in our party were lacking our soft boiled egg and our server immediately got us some eggs!! Awesome!

  4. This is an amazing place if you are looking for a variety of noodle soups. I highly recommend sitting by the chefs bar where you can watch the chefs preparing food. Especially, since I was there alone, I thoroughly enjoyed the bar seating.
It was packed during the lunch time and I had to wait for 20 minutes. But, the food was worth the wait. I ordered the shoyu ramen and it is very delicious. The smell of the food is refreshing and I strongly recommend adding chili to it if you prefer spicy food. Food is tastier when it is warm and don’t hesitate to slurp to have the best experience!

  5. Came in from out of town and found this place on Yelp. It didn’t disappoint! Space is small, but atmosphere was so cute and cozy. I got the spicy shoyu ramen and uber ice cream after.

Everyone was really nice and really attentive. I think this is a must-go place in Austin.

  6. My oh my, my tour of Austin Ramen just found my favorite chicken ramen place! This location is located right on East 6th Street and is quite tiny and intimate. It has Asian style seating where you share tables with different parties. The wait can get long since there isn’t much seating inside but its well worth it in my opinion!

The specialty here is chicken. If you’re looking for a heavier more oily place then go to Tatsuya or somewhere else. The broth here is much lighter and absolutely delicious!!! I don’t walk out feeling like a sumo wrestler like I usually do after Tatsuya.

I’ve had the Shio, Shoyu, and Miso. All are quite excellent but I prefer the chicken chasu than the shredded chicken. I would recommend getting the chili paste because it gives the ramen a nice kick and if you’re eating with a friend you can definitely split the paste.

They also have some awesome rotating beers from beer works and ice cream! The time I went they had soybean ice cream! 10/10 was delicious! I’ll be back early to avoid the lines in the future 😀

  7. Warning: This place is popping! As soon as it opens, it fills up quickly so come early if you want to get a seat. Otherwise, write your name on the clipboard so you know who is to be seated next. If you get there early, you’ll probably get your food early, but I came around noon (opens at 11:30) and had to wait a bit.

The ramen here has a chicken broth base for a lighter, more guilt-free ramen eating experience. I tried the shio and I like it much better than the shoyu! Their ramen are not heavy at all, and the chicken is soft and tender. I added nori to mine but I’m not sure it’s worth the added price.

I prefer to come here out of all the ramen spots in Austin. Despite being a small, cramped space, it has a lot of personality and the ramen is super satisfying without being too greasy or heavy.

  8. Happened to stumble upon this place on our visit to Austin and it was just what we were looking for! It’s a very small place, but we got a seat right away at the counter. This was a cool spot because we could watch the action in the kitchen. I got the Miso Ramen which was delicious, but a bit too savory for what I was looking for at the time. That’s ok, because since the portions are SO generous, I was able to take it home and had lunch for the next day! Would love to come back and try something else.
