Austin’s West 6th Street is enigmatic. By day, it’s a bohemian enclave of bakeries, fine and casual dining restaurants, retail shopping, and art galleries. By night it transforms into one of Austin’s busiest nightlife districts with an eclectic mix of outdoor patio ice houses, dive bars, upscale rooftop lounges, UT centric sports bars and the center of Austin’s upscale dance club scene.
“West 6th is a bit Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde – transforming strikingly from day to night.”

The newer offshoot of Austin’s Old or “Dirty” 6th, West 6th at night is big, boisterous and crowded. It’s a party – with clubs and restaurants lined up down both sides of the street. Peddi cabs and scooters compete with auto traffic to whiz folks back and forth the five blocks from Old or Dirty 6th’s entrance at Congress Ave.
“Three blocks of unadulterated classic clubbing”
West 6th Street runs from Congress Avenue on the East all the way to Mopac to the West. The heart of the district is between West and San Antonio Streets, that’s three blocks of unadulterated classic clubbing – but going west to Mopac it gets more upscale and older in clientele. And again, it’s a bit Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde – transforming strikingly from day to night.
