  1. Fantastic tour! Steven McFarlin an encyclopedia of knowledge and humor. Lots of art, music and historical trivia. Great free red velvet cupcakes and water! Terrific recommendation to Torchy’s Tacos for lunch after. Delish! Thanks Steven!

  2. Took the Best of Austin aka Real Austin aka Bucket List tour. It is 2 hours that brings you all around Austin for an overview that includes getting off the van at a few spots like the congress, hope outdoor and the Austin postcard mural. Ike was our guide and he was funny, knowledgeable and considerate. We had two people that are in their late 80s and Ike was very patient and accommodating. What I loved the most is that the tour brings you to the few must-go spots that are pretty far from each other all over Austin within 2 hours.
If you want to go on an Austin tour, this is it!

  3. Best tour, hands down! Great overview of history of Austin and Texas with a liberal dose of information about the food and music scene. Highly recommend this tour and our excellent guide Jason.

  4. An informed and enjoyable way of getting the lay of the land in Austin, Texas. The two-hour overview tour was just right. The rest of our days there were based on what we learned and saw during this tour. Shout out to our guide Ike Eichstaedt, even though I didn’t get my cupcake!

  5. So let me begin by saying that I have lived in Austin for 17+ years and have been only on one of these type of tours, and I know a little about Austin as well. My brother and friend came for a visit and we decided to take the Real Austin tour form this company. They did NOT disappoint. They hit a variety of locations, murals, neighborhoods, and had plenty of knowledge. We even got to stop by for a snack at a local food truck… bonus. I even learned some stuff. If you’re looking for a fun, quick, small, and an overview of the city…this is it. I can’t wait to do another tour from this company.

  6. We used Austin Detours to take a group of 30 on a tour of a brewery, winery, and distillery for my wife’s 50th birthday celebration. They did a great job setting everything up, payment was easy, and our guide (Sunny) was a blast. I highly recommend them if you are coming to Austin and looking for a great tour. They have great options to meet any type of adventure.

  7. Jason was an awesome and highly knowledgeable tour guide! This was a great tour and allowed us to see a lot of the city that we would never be able to otherwise. He gave us a very interesting history and background of Austin that really kept our attention! The bus was very comfortable and they were very flexible and allowed us to bring lunch on board.

Highlights were we got to see the inside of the capital building, ans this cool graffiti art area and stop at a food truck for a complimentary frozen oreo covered banana – yum!

Highly recommend, efficient use of two hours in Austin!

  8. Loved the Music Crawl. My friend and I wanted to experience the music scene but had no idea where to start so we opted for this tour and had a great time.

#1 Sunny is great guide. Informative, enthusiastic, you could really see his love for music.

    Our three stops were:

White Horse: traditional honkey tonk. I am not a country music fan, but this place was so fun. Great band and it was so entertaining watching people dance. Some just dance, others do serious two stepping.

ABGBs. Beer garden with music. Tomar and the FCs were awesome. Great R&B/Soul Music. The only downside of the tour is you are on a time limit, so we were sad to leave this one. We didn’t eat, but this stop gave tour mates time to order a pizza.

Saxon Pub – final stop – Monte Montgomery – singer/songwriter guitarist. Cool, small pub for watching music.

While we drove from venue to venue Sunny also gave us some insight into Austin, the neighborhoods we drove through, and of course the music!

  9. Amazing tour! I decided to sight see on my last day of a conference, and found Austin Detours online. It was a great decision. Joe, the tour guide, was amazing. He was full of knowledge, wit, and charisma which made the tour that much more enjoyable. The tour ensures that within 2+ hours you hit the majority of Austins attractions with enough time to take the much needed selfies. It also provides great recommendations on places to eat, live music venues, and other things to do.

I highly recommend it and would even encourage that you request Joe.

  11. I visited Austin for a work trip and only had half a day to explore, and I’m really glad I spent the afternoon on The Real Austin Tour! It was very affordable, and a solid two hours of touring that included the capitol building, HOPE art gallery, a drive around different neighborhoods (Rainey Street, 6th Street, etc), and cupcakes. Our tour guide Steven kept things entertaining, but also super informative. I definitely recommend Austin Detours to anyone who wants a solid and fun overview of the city!

  12. Super fun tour. We has Steven as a guide and he was super knowledgeable and gave us tips on all the cool places to visit after the tour. It was short and sweet, but it gave us a good idea of all the places we wanted to go back to and spend more time in.

  13. So I keyed off the Yelp Reviews which of course is a smart choice. At the end of the day where else would you look for local knowledge? A Mercedes van, Steven as our guide and a total of 8 (my party was 4) and we were off and running. Steven, tour guide by day and apparently a comedian by night knew his Austin history and lore. We stopped first at the Capitol where I have been before. It was a good stop and Steven knew his stuff. We then wound our way to an artist graffiti place that was intriguing. We then drove our way off the beaten path to a few interesting neighborhoods and stopped on SoCo for delicious cupcakes. A drive through Rainey St and a bunch of interesting trivia wound up the two hour tour. Good value and excellent tour.

  14. This is the best way to spend 2hrs, and get to know a bit of Austin. Elisa did a great job by keeping everyone engaged and entertained throughout the tour. I recommend doing this tour as early during your stay, as it will help to give you ideas on what and where to go while you’re in Austin.
Well worth the price of admission.

  15. What a great way to see the city! Our tour guide’s name was Dustin, who was knowledgeable and friendly and showed us all around and pointed out cool things that makes Austin great .
To name a few, we toured inside the Capital, drove by Univ of Texas, saw murals/artwork, neighborhoods, and he even got us cupcakes!

I had a few hours to kill by myself and was SO glad to have gone. There is no way I would’ve been able to cover that much ground on my own and now I’ve seen more landmarks and cool places than my friend that lives there!! Thank you!!! (I’m the one that was running late and met you at the Capital instead of the Visitor Center).

  16. Just did the Detour of Austin with Steven as our tour guide. Amazing time. He was very knowledgeable and hilarious (he’s been a comedian for many years). We started by driving to the capitol learning the entire way about the various points of interest on the route. The capitol building was extremely impressive. You won’t be disappointed. No spoilers! We then drove through UT and had a few more stops before returning to home base. The last stop before the return was for cupcakes and was right by our airbnb so Steven let us get out there. Would recommend highly. Ask for Steven!

  17. We checked out the new AustiNight tour with Austin Detours tonight and it was AWESOME!! We live here in Austin and completely enjoyed every second none the less! Thanks to Ike, the coolest, most chill tour guide in Austin!!! We had some canned wine, BBQ, local craft brews, and finished it off with some honky tonkin in the true Austin way!

  18. I recently traveled to Austin for a short weekend trip. Austin Detours offers a variety of tours for whatever you might be looking for. I wanted to make the best out of the little time I had there, so I decided to go on the The Real Austin Tour. This was a bang for the buck (only $35) and I got to see plenty of my to-do items in just a couple hours!

First off, the tour guide, Ike was fantastic! He was full of knowledge, energy and made the tour lots of fun. He encouraged conversation amongst everyone so we could make friends along the way. Ten of us loaded the Mercedes van and headed out on the town. We got a brief tour of the beautiful capital, local art spots and even a sweet treat at the end. My favorite part about this tour was that we weren’t just sitting in the van the whole time. Although we saw many things as we drove, we still got the opportunity to get out, walk around and take pictures.

If you are looking for a great way to explore Austin, I would highly suggest checking out any of the tours they offer!

  20. If your looking for a great way to see Austin, this is it! We are SO happy we chose to do this as one of our adventures for a bachelorette weekend in Austin. We had the best time, we did the winery BBQ tour…HIGHLYYY recommended for any group! We had a blast, and our tour guide Joe was incredible! He was knowledgeable, funny, and so sweet. Next time we’re back in Austin we will definitely be on another Austin Detours (and have Joe as our guide!)
